I have a lump (pain etc) in my breast, what should I do?

A referral is needed from your GP. You can fax it to 8032369 or 8032550 or to post it to the BreastHealth Unit, 38 Eccles Street, Dublin 7. 

When will I be seen?

New patients are being seen every day in the breast unit and all patients are being seen within national guidelines. You will receive an appointment letter in the post.

I was seen in the breast clinic in the past and I now have the symptoms back again. Do I need to get a new referral from my GP?

A new referral is not required in this case. Any patient seen in the breast clinic in the past has access to come back to the service at any time.

Contact the relevant consultants secretary who will organise a review appointment.

I would like to have a mammogram performed. What do I need to do?

If you aged between 50 to 64 years and you have no breast symptom please contact the National Breast Screening Programme (BreastCheck) at 1800 45 45 55 to register for a routine mammogram every 2 years.

If you are outside this age group or you have a breast symptom a referral is needed from the GP. You can fax it to 8032369 or 8032550 or to post it to the BreastHealth Unit, 38 Eccles Street, Dublin 7.

I would like to have a mammogram, as there is a history of breast cancer in my family. Do I need a referral from my GP?

Patients with a family history of breast cancer are seen at Family History Clinics in the breast unit.
